The device (M) has an actuator (44) arranged in a housing (6) and for controlling a control device (70). A ventilation opening has a valve body fastened at a position proximate to the housing such that the body is engaged with a movable component of the actuator to close the opening and identify the mechanism for a less- gas emission mode when an airbag (22) is inflated with the inactivated actuator for holding the component in a starting position. The body is detached from the component to open the opening for a high gas-emission mode during activation of the actuator.
