PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost required for recovery and to facilitate a recovery operation by considerably reducing damage to a work conveying device even when a large load is applied to the work loading base of the work conveying device in a vertical lathe system having the work conveying device for loading or unloading a work by moving into and out of the machining area of a vertical lathe. SOLUTION: The work loading device 25 is positionally changed selectively to a position inside the machining area or to a position outside the machining area by a work loading base position selector means. A base member 30 on which the work loading base 25 is installed comprises: a base member base part 30a so supported on a work loading base position selector means that its position can be selected; and a base member swing part 30b which is vertically swingably supported by a swing center shaft 43 extending horizontally relative to the base member base part 30a and in which the vertical swing is restrained by an anchoring member 44 weaker in strength than the swing center shaft 43.
