<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that ensures long lives of image carriers, reduces the running cost resulting from developer reuse, and at the same time, forms an image of stable image quality and high resolution. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has two image forming parts, each having the image carrier on which a latent image is formed by subjecting the image carrier to exposure by an optical system that exposes according to image signals, a developer carrier which supplies developer to render the latent image visible, and a transfer means which transfers the developer image on the image carrier to a transfer material, forms images in the same color by the primary image forming part and the secondary image forming part. The image forming apparatus is characterized in that the life of the image carrier of the primary image forming part is longer than that of the secondary image forming part, and the secondary image forming part forms an image that is higher in resolution than an image formed by the primary image forming part. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
