When a switching condition is satisfied under which the shifting of a continuously variable transmission is switched from a first shift, which is an upshift or a downshift, to another, second shift, an integral term in feedback control of the first shift is decreased at a first prescribed gradient until zero, and, within the period from when the switching condition is satisfied to when the integral term in feedback control of the first shift becomes zero, calculation is initiated of an integral term in feedback control of the second shift, and the continuously variable transmission is shifted on the basis of the sum of the integral term in feedback control of the first shift and the integral term in feedback control of the second shift.
