To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which is not susceptible to capacity decrease associated with charge/discharge cycles, while having excellent discharge rate characteristics. A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery according to one embodiment of the present invention is provided with: a positive electrode that contains a lithium-containing transition metal oxide; a negative electrode; and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The lithium-containing transition metal oxide has a void fraction within particles of 0.2-30% before the first charge. The nonaqueous electrolyte contains a fluorinated cyclic carbonate and a fluorinated chain carboxylic acid ester.
