In the cutting assembly, a web (16) of paper is fed to a cutting device (17/18) at an alternating drawing-in speed, in order to obtain precise cutting to length. The web (16) of paper is drawn off from a driveable supply reel (15) by means of a drawing-off roller (31) which is connected to a rotary magnet motor with adjustable torque. The drive of a drawing-in roller (36) for the cutting device (17/18) and of the drawing-off roller (31) is controlled in such a way that a supply loop (16a) is always formed between the two rollers. <IMAGE>
