The locking mechanism for gearshift rods (4-7) belonging to a toothed wheel variable gear has a locking plate (3) mounted transversely to the gearshift rods 84-7) in the gear-housing (1). The gear-shaft rods are selected and moved lengthwise by means of a control (8). The locking-plate (3) touches an adjustment operated by the gear control (8)., and causes the locking-plate (3), while one (6) gear-shift rod is being selected, to be moved into the locking position of the other gear shift rods (4,5,7). The locking-plate (3) has locking edges (13) gripping into grooves (12) on the other gear-shift rods (4,5,7). USE/ADVANTAGE - Higher gear-shifting forces are avoided while the gear shift levers are being engaged.
