The invention relates to an electrically operated appliance for preparing hot beverages, such as coffee, tea or the like, in particular to a coffee machine. The housing of this coffee machine has a fresh-water container, downstream of which is arranged a flow heater. This flow heater consists of an electrically operated heating device and a water pipe which is connected by its one end to the fresh-water container and the other end of which communicates with a rising pipe. The outlet of the rising pipe is arranged above a filter body which receives the product to be treated, such as coffee grounds or the like. Situated below the filter body is a collecting vessel which stands on a housing part, such as a supporting base. The electrically operated heating device of the flow heater is designed as a heating band which is wound on at least partial regions of the circumferential surface of the water pipe.
