Process for crosslinking polysilazanes, characterised in that it comprises bringing polysilazanes into contact with an effective quantity of a crosslinking gaseous mixture of ammonia and water vapour, the said polysilazanes containing at least one unit of formula IDENTICAL Si-NH-Si IDENTICAL per molecule. Use of the polysilazanes crosslinked in this way especially for the preparation of ceramic fibres by pyrolysis.
