PURPOSE: To provide a process for the catalytic decomposition of dinitrogen oxide without a distinguished loss of a catalytic activity by applying, in a silver- containing catalyst for decomposing dinitrogen oxide, silver to an alumina carrier having a specific BET surface area. CONSTITUTION: In the case where dinitrogen oxide is decomposed to nitrogen and oxygen using a silver-containing catalyst and the resultant is supplied for example to an air for astronaut's breath, the silver-containing catalyst consisting of applying silver to an alumina carrier having BET surface area of 5-25 m<2> /g is used. Also, in the case of decomposing dinitrogen oxide to elements at a high temperature in the presence of the silver-containing catalyst, the silver- containing catalyst in which silver is applied to an alumina carrier having BET surface area of 5-25 m<2> /g is used. On this occasion, silver is contained 5-25% by weight, preferably 10-20% by weight based on the used carrier. This silver-containing catalyst is prepared by applying an aqueous solution of a reducible silver compound to a carrier, drying and then converting a silver compound to a metal form. |
