<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a partially stabilized sintered zirconia having high mechanical properties such as anti-abrasion property and impact resistance by reducing crystalline particle diameter and yet showing high toughness although it is liable to be lowered by reducing crystalline particle diameter. <P>SOLUTION: This partially stabilized sintered zirconia is a ZrO<SB>2</SB>-Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>type sintered zirconia whose ZrO<SB>2</SB>crystal phase mainly comprises a tetragonal zirconia and a monoclinic zirconia, and contains 3-20 vol% monoclinic zirconia, the molar ratio of Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>/ZrO<SB>2</SB>is in the range of 2.0/98.0-4.0/96.0, and it contains 0.01-5.0 wt% Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>. The sintered zirconia has an average crystalline particle diameter of not larger than 0.3 μm, and a relative density of not lower than 95%, and the modification quantity at a fracture plane at room temperature is not less than 20 vol%. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
