LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

摘要

PURPOSE:To form finer contact regions for electrically connecting pixel electrodes and thin-film transistors(TFTs) in the active matrix type liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION:The TFTs 6 arranged in a matrix form and the pixel electrodes 5 respectively connected to these TFTs 6 are formed on the inner side main surface of a lower substrate 1. A counter electrode 4 is formed on the inner side main surface of an upper substrate 2 and is disposed to face the lower substrate 1 apart a prescribed spacing. A liquid crystal layer 3 is sealed in this spacing. Trenches 16 are provided within the inner side main surface of the lower substrate 1 to form the contact regions 17 of transparent conductive layers 15 constituting the pixel electrodes 5 and semiconductor layers 8 constituting the TFTs 6.
