PURPOSE:To travel in the center of a road even if the road width is unknown. CONSTITUTION:The road travel support system which supports the traveling of an automobile is equipped with an electric conductor 2 for signal transmission arranged on both sides of a travel lane and a signal transmitter 3 which generates an alternating magnetic field by supplying an alternating current to true electric conductor 2 for signal transmission on a road side, and also equipped with a magnetic detector 4 which detects the alternating magnetic field generated by the electric conductor 2 for signal transmission, a signal processor 5 which detects the current position of the automobile by finding the direction and distance of deviation of both electric conductors 2 for signal transmission of the traveling automobile from the center line on the basis of the magnetic signal detected by the magnetic detector 4, and a position indication device 7 which indicates the current position of the automobile detected by the signal processor 5 on the automobile side. |
