PURPOSE:To obtain an amplifier whose efficiency is higher than the conventional one when used as a booster amplifier, by setting the intensity of an incident pumping light from the optical fiber end from which a signal light is outputted higher than an incident pumping light from the optical fiber end from which a signal light enters. CONSTITUTION:A Pr<3+> added Z-F4, based fluoride optical fiber (core diameter:1.6mum, core/clad specific refraction difference: 3.7%, Pr<3+> concentration:500ppm, length:20m) 1 is excited by pumping light sources 2a, 2b, through optical couplers 3a, 3b. A light signal whose wavelength is about 1.30mum is inputted from a signal source 4, and a signal light is outputted. In this case, the backward excitation intensity (excitation intensity by the pumping light source 2b) is made greater than the forward excitation intensity. The optical fiber l for amplification is divided into two fibers and bilaterally pumped to output a signal. |
