The method involves a pre-distorter which has a first branch (15) that transmits the HF signal to be amplified, to an adding point (14) in an undistorted manner. At least two pre-distorting branches (16,17) transmit the HF signal from the branching to the adding points in such a way as to compensate for the amplifier (10) non-linear distortions. At least one of the pre-distortion branches has allocated at least one adjustable signal cut-off unit (18,19), via which the HF signal is fed, only after an adjustable signal level (P1,P2) is received, from the branching point to the respective pre-distortion branch.
