PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To preferentially display a candidate which a user intends when character string prediction and KANA (Japanese syllabary) KANJI (Chinese character) conversion are merged and the prediction candidate is outputted. SOLUTION: A character string having an input character string at a head part is retrieved from a word dictionary as the candidate of the predicted character string (201-204). The character type of the input character string is checked (206). If the input character string is a KANA character string, the respective candidates of the predicted character string are displayed by reading if the number of the candidates is larger than a previously set value at the time of displaying the respective candidates of the predicted character string, and the respective candidates of the predicted character string are displayed by headers if it is smaller than the set value (207-211). When the number of the candidates is larger than the setting value, the overlap of homonyms is avoided so as to execute display. Then, the number of the display candidates is reduced as a result and the candidate which the user intends can be displayed on a screen. |
