Method of measuring and setting gauge openings formed by drive and/or non-driven rollers, e.g. for rolling systems for producing rolled goods

The method involves passing a beam of light through the opening (11) generating light and dark boundaries and using these to measure and/or set the size, shape or position of the gauge opening. The light/dark boundaries of the opening are detected by a CCD camera (14), digitized and fed to a computer as actual values. The computer compares them with defined demand values for size, shape and position, detects any deviations and outputs correction values. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for implementing the method.
