PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively obtain the subject compound without causing the problem of corrosion of facilities by reacting carbon monoxide an olefin, an alcohol or a diene in the presence of a specific solid catalyst. SOLUTION: An autoclave is charged with a >=4C olefin or alcohol or a >=8C diene a silver ion exchange resin and optionally a solvent (e.g. hexane, chlorobenzene, etc.), and/or water and carbon monoxide. A reaction is carried out preferably under 10-100 atmosphere at 110-220 deg.C to give a tertiary carboxylic acid. The silver ion exchange resin is obtained by immersing an ion exchange resin in an aqueous solution or an acetonitrile solution of silver sulfate, silver nitrate, etc. for about 20 hours. The ratio of the silver ion is preferably <=90% in the case of silver ion exchange. The activity of the silver ion exchange resin is improved by heating in vacuum before use. |
