Hydrogen source comprises a chemical hydride (10) bound in an organic substance which reacts with water forming gaseous hydrogen. An independent claim is also included for a fuel cell (1) comprising an electrolyte (2) limited on one side by an anode chamber (3) containing the hydrogen source and on the other side by a cathode chamber. Preferred Features: The organic substance is a hydrophobic substance that does not react with the chemical hybrid. The bound hydride contains pores as gas passages. The organic substance is a polymer and is liquid or viscous or powdered with a particle size of 1-100, especially 10-50 mu m. The weight ratio of the hydride to the organic substance is 20-80: 80-20, preferably 30-50: 70-50.
