Device for obtaining blood samples comprises an elongate housing (2) with an opening (5) for the tip (6) of a lancet (7) held by a movable lancet holder (8). It further includes: (a) a lancet drive (12) with a spring (15) held in compression by a stop operable by means of a mechanism (19); and (b) a two-sided rotation and axial slide mechanism (25) for rotation of the lancet drive rotor (13).
