PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe and secure fuel injection pump 1 limiting the extent of damage in malfunction of a plunger 5 or a cam ring 8. SOLUTION: In this fuel injection pump, a camshaft 2 is constituted of a main shaft 2A and a cam part 2B disposed separately from the main shaft 2A, and the cam part 2B is fitted and attached to the main shaft 2A, and the main shaft and the cam part are connected to prevent relative rotation. However, connection strength between the main shaft 2A and the cam part 2B connected through a key 6 is designed to be smaller than failure strength of a pump housing 3. Therefore, just in case the plunger 5 is broken and a plunger head 5a is fallen and caught in a clearance between the pump housing 3 and the cam ring 8, the main shaft 2A and the cam part 2B are separated to idly rotate the main shaft 2A so that pumping function is put out to prevent the breakage of the pump housing 3.
