PURPOSE: A liquid crystal composition, which shows fast response to dynamic picture image and high luminance is provided, due to high birefringence, dielectric anisotropy and phase transition temperature, and low threshold voltage and viscosity. CONSTITUTION: The nematic liquid crystal composition comprises a nematic liquid crystal compound represented by formula 1, wherein R is CnH2n+1O, CnH2n+1, CnH2n+1S or CnH2n-1, in which n is an integer of 1-15; A is a phenyl, phenyl-cyclohexane, cyclohexane-phenyl or a single bond; n is an integer of 0 or 1; B is a single bond, CH2CH2, -COO-, -C=C- or -C≡C-; X is H, F, Cl or Br; Y is NCS, SCN or F; and Z is H, F, Cl or Br. The liquid crystal display device using the nematic composition is TN(Twisted Nematic), STN(Super Twisted Nematic), OCB(Optically Compensated Bend), TFT-TN(Thin Film Transistor-Twisted Nematic), IPS(In Plane Switching) or FFS(Fringe Field Switching) mode of the active matrix method. |
