A washing machine and a method for preventing freezing thereof is provided to prevent remaining water in a water tank and a water supply path from being frozen during winter by sensing temperature around the washing machine and supplying predetermined amount of water to a water supply path if the surrounding temperature of the washing machine is in freezing temperature range. A method for preventing freezing a washing machine comprises the steps of judging whether the washing process is finished or not(S200), sensing surrounding temperature of the washing machine if the washing process is finished(S210), and comparing the sensed surrounding temperature of the washing machine to set standard temperature, and supplying water or operating a drainage unit for predetermined time if the surrounding temperature of the washing machine is below the set standard temperature(S240). |
