A method of manufacturing a submergible machine protector bag comprises providing a tubular sleeve 40 of reinforcing material, fitting the sleeve 40 over a mandrel 44 and embedding the sleeve 40 in a waterproof elastomeric material to form a bag body and removing the bag body from the mandrel 44. The sleeve 40 may be a knitted tube or sock. The sleeve may be positioned relative to the mandrel so that it is embedded in a radially inner surface 46, in the radially outer surface 50 or between the radially inner and outer surfaces 46, 50 (figure 4) of the bag body. The bag may be formed by press moulding the elastomeric material. A layer of elastomeric material may be provided on the mandrel before fitting the sleeve and, preferably, the layer is cured before fitting the sleeve on the mandrel. A further layer of elastomeric material may be provided radially outwardly of the sleeve. |
