A folding device having a simplified structure, capable of being easily maintained and repaired, and inexpensive. The folding device has a placement member (31), a rotation mechanism (33), and plate-like members (32). The placement member (31) is a plate-like member, on a first surface of which an object to be folded is placed such that a portion of the object hangs from the surface.The rotation mechanism (33) rotates the first surface of the placement member (31) about an axis included in the first surface. The plate-like members (32) can position the portion of the object to a place near the placement member (31) by rotation of the placement member (31) caused by the rotation mechanism (33), and then the plate-like members (32) moves the portion of the object to the placement member (31) side while holding the portion.
