The method involves supplying an analog sensor signal to an input of an operational amplifier (706), and amplifying the signal. The amplified analog sensor signal is measured and compared with a threshold value. A direct current (DC) voltage is generated based on a difference between the signal and the value. A difference signal is generated from the sensor signal and the voltage, amplified and an output signal is provided. The voltage is generated by a variable resistance between other input of the amplifier and a reference point with a reference voltage. An independent claim is also included for a gas sensor arrangement.
