<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of improving heat-radiation performance, illumination intensity control performance of a light source, and image quality of a display device while enabling thinning and a large screen of the display device. <P>SOLUTION: A backlight unit 6 includes a light source unit 7 wherein light guide plates 2 with light-transmitting characteristics are assembled in order to guide light of the light source 1 in a direction of a liquid crystal panel 5, and a chassis 3 for retaining or supporting the light source unit 7. The light guide plate 2 is formed in a flat shape, wherein a surface opposing to a back surface of the liquid crystal panel 5 is set up to be a light emitting surface and a surface opposing to the chassis 3 is set up to be a reflecting surface for reflecting the light and one of a plurality of side faces adjacent to the light emitting surface and the reflecting surface is set up to be a light-incident surface in which light from the light source 1 is incident. The plurality of light source units 7 are arranged in the horizontal direction and the perpendicular direction of the liquid crystal panel 5 at a back side of the liquid crystal panel 5. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
