ADAPTIVE FRAME/FIELD CODING IN MACRO BLOCK LEVEL OF DIGITAL VIDEO CONTENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coding method and a unit for coding a digital video content.

SOLUTION: A coding method for coding a picture of an image sequence includes the steps of: dividing the picture into a plurality of small portions; and selectively coding at least one of the plurality of small portions in a frame coding mode and at least one of the plurality of small portions in a field coding mode. Coding is applied to a macro block couple and when the frame coding mode is selected, both fields of each macro block in the macro block couple are coded together.
