An image projector includes a light source to emit light, an image forming device to form an image based on a reflected light of the light emitted from the light source, a color wheel disposed between the light source and the image forming device so as to pass the light emitted from the light source to the image forming device through an optical path, the color wheel including a plurality of color filters, at least one lens to project the image formed on the image forming device to a projection surface as a projection image, and circuitry to cause the color wheel be moved away from the optical path for the light emitted from the light source, when a brightness of the projection image is to be increased.

1. An image projector, comprising:
a light source to emit light; an image forming device to form an image based on a reflected light of the light emitted from the light source; a color wheel disposed between the light source and the image forming device so as to pass the light emitted from the light source to the image forming device through an optical path, the color wheel including a plurality of color filters; at least one lens to project the image formed on the image forming device to a projection surface as a projection image; and circuitry to cause the color wheel be moved away from the optical path for the light emitted from the light source, when a brightness of the projection image is to be increased.
