PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent overcharge of a power storage device and breakage of equipment by inhibiting occurrence of excessive regeneration itself and reserve a possibility of continuing work by maintaining a regeneration brake.SOLUTION: In a hybrid construction machine, a power storage device 14 is charged under power generation operation of a generator motor 12 that is driven by an engine 11, the generator motor 12 is made to perform motor operation by stored power of the power storage device 14 to assist the engine 11, and a slewing motor 17 is driven by electric power of at least one of the power storage device 14 and the generator motor 12 to generate regenerative electric power. By a controller 15, the regenerative electric power is limited such that regenerative electric power generated in the slewing motor 17 is equal to or less than the sum of electric power that can be absorbed by the generator motor 12 and the power storage device 14.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
