This liquid crystal display device is obtained by arranging a plurality of pixels, each of which comprises: a first substrate and a second substrate; a first electrode that is formed on a facing surface of the first substrate, said facing surface facing the second substrate; a second electrode that is formed on a facing surface of the second substrate, said facing surface facing the first substrate; and a liquid crystal layer that is provided between the first electrode and the second electrode and contains liquid crystal molecules. The liquid crystal molecules are provided with pretilt; the first electrode is formed of a base layer 150 having a plurality of recesses and projections, and transparent conductive material layers 135, 145; a first transparent conductive material layer 135, which is connected to a first power supply unit, is formed on each projection top surface 151 of the base layer 150; a second transparent conductive material layer 145, which is connected to a second power supply unit, is formed on each recess bottom surface 152 of the base layer 150; and the first transparent conductive material layer 135 and the second transparent conductive material layer 145 are separated from each other. |
