摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium ion battery which shows a high charging voltage and an excellent cycle characteristic and realizes high capacity and long service life. <P>SOLUTION: Modified lithium cobaltate contains MO<SB>x</SB>(wherein M is zirconium, titanium, boron, aluminum or gallium; and x is 2 when M is zirconium or titanium, and x is 3/2 when M is boron, aluminum or gallium) deposited onto the surface of a lithium cobaltate particle. The lithium ion battery uses this as a positive electrode active material. The modified lithium cobaltate is obtained through a manufacturing process employing an extremely simple treatment wherein the lithium cobaltate particle is soaked into an aqueous solution and subsequently baked. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
