For consecutive loop closure formation in the intermediate stations of a digital transmission path, an initialising signal is transmitted to all the regenerators (Reg A1 ... Reg An) of one call direction, followed within a specific time period by the transmission of a further signal containing a loop closure command. The loop circuit is formed in the first regenerative repeater (ZWR1) by the loop closure command, and an initialising signal transmitter (Q11) is simultaneously activated which transmits an initialising signal to the next regenerators (Reg A2 ... Reg An). Due to a short-time interruption of the transmission of the loop closure command, the loop closure is interrupted in the first regenerative repeater (ZWR1) and formed in the next regenerative repeater (ZWR2).
