PURPOSE:To improve operability by using a character input system using a keyboard and a handwritten character input system using a tablet in combination. CONSTITUTION:A computer body 1 includes a CPU and a memory and application programs such as a control program and a word processor capable of Japanese processing stored in the memory are equipped with a code input function using KANJI (Chinese character) codes. The keyboard 3 is equipped with keys for inputting KANJI codes corresponding to respective KANJI characters and a key-inputted KANJI code is outputted together with an added control code. The tablet 4 fetches and outputs stroke information in a character input area 20 where handwritten characters are inputted with a pen 21. A recognizing device 5 discriminates and converts a handwritten KANJI input into a KANJI code and adds a control code thereto to output the same code sequence as the output of the keyboard 3. An adapter 6 sends outputs of the keyboard 3 and tablet 4 to the main body 1 together in one. Troubles in inputting KANJI are reduced when the tablet 21 is used, so the operability is improved.
