PURPOSE: To obtain an image closer to an original image by sending decoding enable data at least to the end even when an error takes place in a transmission line or the like and a receiver section interpolates the image in the image communication. CONSTITUTION: A transmitter side generates a transmission frame 13 comprising a coding unit (coding unit MCU) 12 by one picture element block as a unit and an error check code and sends the frame to the receiver side. The receiver side checks an error in a transmission frame 15 received from the transmission line 14 and decoded and applies decoding to the information source as it is when the frame is normal. When an N-th MCU has an error, it is replaced with a decoding enable specific bit pattern 18 and the frame is decoded (16). Then a decoded image 17 is interpolated to interpolate the picture element block replaced with the specific bit pattern due to error by utilizing the correlation with the picture element blocks received normally close to the replaced frame.
