<p>PURPOSE: To provide a detector and counter for passing object which accurately detect the passage of plural persons and count the number of them even at the time when they pass abreast. CONSTITUTION: This passing object detector which detects an object moving on a prescribed passageway is provided with an image pickup means 4 which picks up the image of a monitor area set as a linear area crossing the moving direction of the material from above, a cluster picture extraction means 54a which extracts cluster picture information of materials existing in the monitor area based on picture information from the image pickup means 4, an object discrimination means 54b which acquires the size of the cluster picture based on cluster picture information extracted by the cluster picture extraction means 54a and discriminates whether the detection object is an objective object or not based on size information of the cluster picture, and a passage detection means 54c which detects passage of the detection object based on object discrimination information indicating the classification of the object from the material discrimination means 54b.</p> |
