The detenting device has two holding positions for arresting the moving part of the hinged mechanism in a closed and an open position. The catch (11) which is joint to the first part (1) of the hinged mechanism is loaded by a spring (17). The pitch of spring is limited in such a way that the catch during its movement along the meshing path (21-27) is loaded by the spring. The catch is unloaded during its movement in the return section (22) of the meshing path. The catch is guided in the correct area of the meshing path because of the shape of the return section. A stop (18) which limits the spring pitch, interacts with the spring and grips the side shoulder (14) of the catch.
