Use of antibodies, preferably monoclonal antibodies, which bind to Fc psi receptors, preferably Fc psi RIII receptors, and which inactivate these receptors or destroy cells bearing these receptors and/or which are coupled to other substances that are cytotoxic; soluble Fc psi receptors, preferably soluble Fc psi RIII receptors, which bind to immunoglobulins, preferably IgG1 and/or IgG3; IgG-binding protein V isolated from Gardnerella vaginalis, and/or antisense RNA molecules that specifically bind to Fc psi receptor mRNA sequences, preferably Fc psi RIII receptor mRNA sequence, for treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is new.
