摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the contrast ratio without lowering the brightness of a panel by arranging address electrodes between a plurality of barrier ribs formed on a rear face plate, by providing black layers on the top of the barrier ribs, and by specifying an angle formed between the barrier rib side face and the black layer side face. SOLUTION: A substrate is so formed that black layers 8 are formed in the top parts of barrier ribs 2 provided parallel to a rear face plate 1 and address electrodes 3 and phosphors 4 are provided in discharge display cells 5 partitioned by the barrier ribs 2. The device is formed into an appropriate shape so that the angle formed between the side face of the barrier risk 2 and the side face of the black layer 8 is set to 100-180 deg. and the opening area of the discharge display cell 5 is set to the maximum. The black layer 8 is so formed that black paste is uniformly and filled on a mesh of a paste holding body at a prescribed speed and pressure, the mesh is brought into contact with the top part of the barrier rib 2, and the mesh is released therefrom. Secondly, it is burnt under prescribed conditions.
