Comminution and distribution device for comminutable, pumpable materials

Solid waste substances in pumpable form are contained in waste water and form sludge which is mechanically de-watered, cut up into uniform fine particles and then surrendered to a further process e.g. drier. The substances are cut up by a shredder with an incoming pipe (1) delivering the substances onto two contra-rotating cutter blades (2) under a hood. The hood and blades are separated by a narrow gap (4) by means of which the solid substances reach the cutter blades and are shredded into fine particles. The hood surface facing the cutter blades incorporates a shallow recess (5). The recesses collect elongated substances especially hair which do not otherwise readily drop through the rotor blades. The elongated substances gradually migrate to the periphery to a zone with a small cross section where they are shredded.
