PASSIVATION BY INACTIVE PARTICULATE MATTER FOR UNISITE CATALYST IN PRODUCTION OF EPDM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out a passivation of an inactive particulate matter reducing a toxic effect of the inactive particulate matter, increasing catalytic activity and cost-reducing by contacting carbon black with trialkyl aluminum prior to a polymerization of constituting monomers. SOLUTION: In a vapor phase production of (A) ethylene-propylene rubber or (B) ethylene-propylene-diene rubber in the presence of (C) a unisite catalyst system and (D) an inactive particulate matter, the component D is preliminary treated with (E) a trialkyl aluminum compound having formula: AlR3 (R is a 1-14C alkyl). The component D is preliminary treated with a slurry including a diluent (i) selected from the group comprising 5-20C aliphatic hydrocarbon, etc., and the component E, in that case, 0,001-100 mmole of the component E is used for 1 g of the component D in the component i as the ratio of the component E to the component D.
