PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium capable of increasing a squareness ratio and a reverse magnetic domain nucleus forming magnetic field Hn, and having a good noise characteristic and a high resistance to thermal fluctuation. SOLUTION: A carbon substrate film 2 containing carbons is provided on a substrate 1, and a vertical magnetic film 3 is provided thereon, in which a magnetization easy shaft is oriented vertically to the substrate. The vertical magnetic film 3 is formed by sputtering at least one of Pt and Pd, and a Co- containing material by plural times.
