An image display apparatus is provided to suppress reduction of brightness by adjusting an illumination interval of each pixel array. An image display apparatus includes a pixel array and an ambient circuit for driving the pixel array. The pixel array includes scan and signal lines, and matrix typed pixels. The ambient circuit includes a scanner for supplying a sequence control signal and a driver(6) for supplying image signals to respective signal lines. Each of the pixels includes a sampling transistor for sampling an image signal from the signal lines based on a control signal from the scan lines, an illuminating component illuminated by the output current from the driving transistor, a driving transistor for supplying an output current based on the sampled image signal to the illuminating component, and a switching transistor for illuminating the illuminating component based on an illumination interval. The scanner includes first and second scanners(3,4) for supplying first and second control signals to first and second scan lines, respectively. The second scanner turns off an output of the second control signal and adjusts variation of illumination interval.
