<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic substance sorting method capable of efficiently sorting a magnetic substance and a non-magnetic substance using a lifting magnet and sorting by difference of a content of the magnetic substance, and a magnetic substance sorting device. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic force sorting processing part 10 is provided on an excitation current control device for controlling an excitation current I(t) of the lifting magnet M. The magnetic force sorting processing part 10 is provided with an attachment/detachment processing part for repeatedly varying the current value of the excitation current I(t) between an excitation value Ir and a demagnetization value Is; and an absorption force change part 30 for changing the excitation value Ir at the attachment/detachment processing part 20. When the lifting magnet M is made opposed to a mixture S having different content of the magnetic substance and the excitation state and the degaussed state are repeatedly varied, the magnetic substance can be moved to an upper layer of the mixture S and the non-magnetic substance can be moved to a lower layer of the mixture.
