<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pointing device which is improved in operability by reflecting an operating force in a perpendicular direction in the cursor moving speed of an X/Y plane direction. <P>SOLUTION: A detection part detects an operating force in an X/Y plane direction and an operating force in a perpendicular direction to a stick type operation part 1. A cursor speed determination part 8 changes reference functions stored in a recording part 9 according to the magnitude of the operating force in the perpendicular direction, and selects functions different by operating force in the perpendicular direction, and determines the cursor moving speed according to the selected functions.
