A method and apparatus for realizing number portability in a short message system are disclosed. The method comprises: a Short Message Center (SMSC) searching its own build-in Number Portability Database (NPDB) for the Routing Number (RN) information of a called party after receiving a short message; the SMSC determining whether the RN information points to a local network to which the SMSC belongs according to the searched RN information; when the RN information points to the local network, the SMSC calling for the short message finally; when the RN information doesn't point to the local network, the SMSC sending the short message to the network pointed by the RN information according to the obtained RN information and calling for the short message finally. The method and apparatus can be realized simply and don't need to build the associated device of the NPDB. |
