<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device and a semiconductor laser device in which reduction of the light utilization efficiency of a laser beam emitted from a semiconductor laser element can be suppressed. <P>SOLUTION: When a laser beam A which is emitted from a laser element 32 for the DVD and of which the polarization direction is perpendicular to the direction of the groove of a polarization grating 23 is made incident on the polarization grating 23, the polarization grating 23 does not diffract the laser beam but transmit it as 0 order diffraction light A0. Therefore, all laser beams emitted from the laser element 32 for the DVD can be used for reading the information signal of the DVD and detection of FES, TES. Thereby, reduction of the light utilization efficiency caused by the diffraction of the grating 3 used fro detecting TES of a CD in a conventional optical pickup device 1 can be suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
