PURPOSE: To allow appropriate treatments to be made with different functions used depending on the stage of treatment, by establishing particular values for the degrees of absorption of TNF-α, absorption of a complementary factor D, and absorption of interleukin 1-β, and by establishing particular values for urea clearance, ultrafiltration coefficient in the presence of blood, and volume of the chamber within the device. CONSTITUTION: A multifunctional device, including semipermeable separator components for extrarenal clearance by the extracorporeal circulation of blood, sets the absorption rate of the separator components to at least 20 ml/min as a value of urea clearance, for an absorption of TNF-αof about 600 ng or more, an absorption of complementary factor D of about 30 mg or more, an absorption of interleukin 1-βof about 300 ng or more, as well as a bloodstream equal to about 100 ml/min, a dialysis fluid flow equal to about 33 ml/min, and an amount of ultrafiltration equal to about 0 ml/min. There is further provided an ultrafiltration coefficient in the presence of blood of more than 5 ml. For blood circulation, the volume of the chamber in the device is set to about 150 ml or less.
