The catheter has a hose-type basic body, near whose distal end is a balloon (13) having a basic diameter in the non-expanded state. The rounded knob (8) for attachment to the distal end has a maximum diameter greater than the basic diameter of the balloon. The knob can be drop-shaped, and can screw or snap into engagement with the basic body. There can be a central passage through the knob, and a stent to be fitted round the balloon, a hose-type prosthesis having one end fitted round the stent.
