VIDEO MANAGING SYSTEM AND VIDEO MANAGING METHOD

A video managing system capable of easily executing edition, and smoothly managing the video materials that have been edited or is being edited. A digital video cassette recorder (13) generates a simple index picture by compressing index pictures used as editing points based on index data such as mark-in points recorded on a video tape in a digital video cassette (12) or in a memory attached to a cassette. The edition is very easy because the simple index pictures are edited in connection with the video materials. According to the instructions from the editing device (14), simple index pictures can be added even onto the video materials on the video tape that has been edited or is being edited. Use of the simple index pictures makes it easy to confirm the contents of the video tape and to unitarily manage the video tapes.
